How the typical arrangement starts
A company in Manchester, Riyadh or Toronto finds a good Pakistani developer, accountant or coordinator on a platform or through a referral. The person is paid a monthly amount by bank transfer or through the platform. No contract beyond the platform's terms, no payslip, no insurance. It works, so nobody revisits it.
Two or three years later the same person is running a critical part of the business and the arrangement has never been looked at by a lawyer or an accountant on either side.
What the company is exposed to
- Misclassification. A long-running, full-time, exclusive, supervised relationship looks like employment, whatever the invoice says. Auditors, investors and acquirers ask about it in due diligence, and Pakistani labour courts look at substance.
- Intellectual property. Pakistani law vests work created in employment in the employer. A foreign contractor agreement with no Pakistani-law assignment may leave title to code, designs or documents unclear.
- Confidentiality and data. A platform's standard terms are not a confidentiality agreement enforceable in Lahore, and do not satisfy a UK GDPR, PDPL or PIPEDA processor requirement.
- Continuity. The person can leave with a day's notice, and a competitor offering a contract, insurance and a pension can take them.
What the worker is missing
- No income tax record, so no tax certificate for a mortgage, a visa or a bank loan.
- No EOBI pension contributions and no social security.
- No medical insurance, no paid annual or sick leave, no gratuity at exit.
- Payments arriving as unexplained foreign remittances, which banks increasingly question.
Skilled Pakistanis know this. Offered the same money as an employee with benefits, almost all of them prefer it.
The Employer of Record alternative
An Employer of Record (EOR) is a Pakistani business that becomes the legal employer of your team member. RRI signs a Pakistani-law employment contract, pays the salary in rupees, withholds and deposits income tax, registers the person for EOBI and social security, arranges medical cover and administers leave and gratuity. You continue to direct the work; you sign one service agreement with RRI and receive one itemised invoice a month in your own currency.
Nothing is registered in Pakistan on your side. No branch, no subsidiary, no tax number. The structure is used by companies with one employee and by companies with fifty.
What it costs, in plain numbers
Your invoice is the employee's actual cost in Pakistan, itemised: gross salary (which includes the income tax we withhold), employer EOBI and social security (a few thousand rupees), a monthly gratuity provision (one twelfth of a month's salary) and the medical premium at cost. Then one fixed management fee per employee. There is no percentage of salary and no hidden exchange-rate spread; rupee items are converted at the bank rate on the invoice date.
For a professional on a mid-level Pakistani salary, the total employer cost through an EOR is typically still a fraction of the equivalent hire in London, Dubai or Toronto, and now fully compliant.
Converting an existing contractor. Nothing changes for the person except for the better: same manager, same work, same tools. We onboard them in five to seven working days, and the first payroll runs in the first full month. If a contractor arrangement is ever questioned later, the service agreement places that risk where it belongs.
Who it is not for
If you need a person for a short project of a few weeks, a well-drafted contractor agreement is still fine. If you plan to hire twenty people and sell in Pakistan, a subsidiary will eventually make sense; an EOR is the bridge until then, and we release employees to your own entity without penalty after twelve months.
