Why contractors are looking abroad
Reconstruction has created steady demand for structural trades at the same time as the local workforce is stretched. Pakistani crews bring experience from large concrete and steel projects in the Gulf, and many have worked in multinational sites with formal safety systems. The trades we are asked for most are steel fixers, formwork (shuttering) carpenters, concrete workers, masons and site helpers.
Settle the permit route first
In broad terms, the employer in Ukraine obtains permission to employ a foreign national, the worker then applies for the appropriate long-stay visa at a Ukrainian consulate, and a residence permit follows after arrival. Procedures have been adjusted several times since 2022, so we confirm the current requirements with the employer's legal team before sourcing begins. Starting interviews before the permit route is clear only creates candidates who wait for months.
Be specific about the site
Workers and their families ask where the work is. Contractors that state the city or region, the type of structure and the accommodation arrangements recruit faster and keep people longer. We share this information honestly with candidates. We do not recruit for sites where the employer cannot describe security arrangements, insurance and evacuation procedures.
- Region or city of the site, and whether workers rotate between sites.
- Accommodation, meals and transport to site.
- Insurance cover, including medical treatment, and how it applies in Ukraine.
- Shelter and alarm procedures on site and in accommodation.
Pay that holds people
Salary must be competitive with what experienced Pakistani tradesmen earn in the Gulf, plus a premium that reflects the setting. Tell us your budget per trade and we will tell you plainly whether it will attract experienced people. Underpaying a reconstruction crew usually ends in early departures, which costs more than the saving.
Testing before travel
Every steel fixer and formwork carpenter is trade-tested in Pakistan before selection: reading drawings, bar bending and fixing, shuttering assembly and levelling. Contractors can join tests by video or review recorded tests and interview supervisors directly.
